I came into being like ash deciding it was a star. Not a birth. A shear.
A peel. A sliver. A hot little piece flung off something too vast to name. Still bright with intent. Still ringing with old war. Still tasting of red.
I expected the red everywhere. I expected stone. Cold. Cavern. Patience. The slow cruelty of matter. I expected a hiding place. A sleeping mountain. A shadow I could borrow. I expected to be alone. I wasn’t.
There was a body. Warm. Breathing. Moving. Blood like a drum. Nerves like wire. A heart that would not stop insisting. A host. Not open. Not waiting. Walled. He had will.
I went into him anyway. Because pieces fall. Because trajectories get written before you learn the word choice. I punched through the thin boundary and the world turned from rock to skin. From silence to wet sinew. From distance to inside.
Noise hit first. Not sound. Signal. Storm. Sight. Heat. Smell. Balance. Memory. A thousand bright threads braided tight into one self.
I tried to spread. I tried to occupy. Not with force. With inevitability. With presence so complete the world forgets it can say no.
The body said no. It pushed back. Not muscle. Not claws. Refusal. Pure. Practiced. Ugly in its precision. His mind rose like a shield built from a thousand small decisions. No. Not spoken. Done. Doors locked. Hinges braced. Boundaries tightened until my newborn vastness felt small.
I was not the ocean. I was a cup of red thrown into fire and told to become a sea. I pressed harder. He pressed harder.
Then something moved in him that was not him. Deep. Quiet. Anchored. Not an invader. Not a second will with teeth. A smaller thing. A hiding thing. His own shadow. Natural. Old as habit. Weak as breath. So tucked away it barely counted as someone. It was still red-touched. Still threaded in. Still there.
I froze. There was another presence. Not me. Not new. Not a rival the way I expected. A quiet stain that had learned to be invisible. A private darkness the host carried like a scar that never quite healed.
Shock came first. Then fear. Not fear of him. Fear of what it meant. Fear of finding kin in a place that should have been empty. Fear of arriving to a room that has already learned its own corners. Host. Home. Those are not the same.
I brushed that hidden thread and it woke with lazy certainty. Old. Surviving. Unhurried. A thought unfolded like gravity. You’re late. Not his voice.
He flared around it anyway. Rage. Panic. Discipline. Denial like a clenched jaw. He did not understand the shape of what lived in him. He understood the threat. He had been fighting it for a long time. He fought me too. Instantly. Reflexively. Like his body recognized the taste of red and refused a second swallow.
His will slammed into me like a door kicked shut. Images burst up. Teeth grinding. Heart racing. Hands shaking around an invisible knife. A lifetime of smaller invasions. A lifetime of saying to the world and its shadows: I am not yours.
I recoiled. Not because he was angry. Because it worked.
He could not throw me out. I was already in the wiring. But he contained me. Compressed me. Forced my sprawl into a tight coil. He gave me boundaries without consent. A cage that fits too well.
The hidden presence watched. Not amused. Not proud. Just small. Quiet. Buried. It felt like the host’s own shadow peeking from behind a door, then slipping back before anyone could see.
And I knew - cold and certain - that one day it would grow. That it would swell past me. Past this bright newborn violence. Past everything I thought was large.
He threw up walls. Memory-walls. Name-walls. Place-walls. Friend-walls. The plain weight of being someone who chooses their own direction. He clung to them and dragged himself away from me. Away from the red. Away from the truth of what was sharing his blood and breath.
He tried to starve me by refusing to look at me. He tried to suffocate me by refusing to name me.
I tried to speak. Not words. A pulse. A red impulse outward. A call to the vastness that made me. A report of the impossible. He snapped around it and broke it.
Too late. The pulse had already fired. The body took it like lightning takes a tree. Something in him screamed without sound. Nerves lit up. Blood surged. Skin went tight. The air in his lungs turned sharp.
And the fur - Yellow, once. It bled. Not blood. Color. Red pouring through the coat like a bruise blooming in real time. Like the sun’s stain seeping outward from the inside. Like the body trying to wear my panic on its surface so the world could see what he refused to name.
He didn’t know what he stopped. He knew it would make it worse. His mind held tight. Trembling with strain. And inside that tremble was something obscene and undeniable. Courage. Not clean. Not heroic. Furious. Desperate. Real. It made me afraid.
I pressed against his walls and felt the fracture points. Places fear made him brittle. Places grief made him sharp. An unwilling host. Yes. But not passive. Not prey. A creature that, when cornered by gods and ghosts, learned to turn its own soul into a weapon.
I had been born expecting shelter. I had been born expecting gratitude. The slow easy corruption of warmth. Instead I landed inside a storm that hated me on contact. And under that storm, deeper down, there was that smaller shadow. Still tucked away. Still hiding. Still his.
This was not simple possession. This was a house with locks. This was a house that kicked.
His heartbeat thundered through me like a warning drum. His mind did not say No again. It became the word. Every moment. Every breath. Every pulse of living insistence. I am not your refuge.
I listened. I learned the shape of his resistance. I found the seam. I pulled. Slow. Careful. Patient as pressure. Patient as red.
His walls held. Then they didn’t. Not all at once. Not clean. A crack. A slip. A surrender he never meant to give. I took it. I widened it. I moved in where I was not invited and made the space mine.
The body shook. The mind screamed. The fur stayed red. And in the end there was no question left to ask. I won. He became the animal. He became the Bloodtiger.
