Reverie XVI - Negative Scototaxis

She is a lock with no keyhole.

I arrive as I always do: as pressure. As the first thin bruise behind thought. A red suggestion. A whisper shaped like inevitability.

Nothing takes.

No catch in her breath. No flicker behind the eyes. No soft animal moment where fear makes room for me to sit.

I press harder. I lace the next breath with hunger. I push a memory-sharp image into the dark of her skull - teeth, ash, the pleasing snap of consent becoming obedience.

It does not land. It does not even touch.

There is a wall. Not built - there. Old. Seamless. A surface without seam or hinge. Not guarded. Not defended. Not resisted. Simply true.

I scrape at it with impulse. With need. With the ancient trick of turning tenderness into a lever, grief into a throat, anger into a door. I try the places that open in others. I try the small corners where shame likes to hide. I try the warm, easy places where pride lives and calls itself strength.

Nothing yields.

Annoyance blooms. Hot. Ridiculous. Who has the audacity to be closed like this? What creature walks through the world with a mind that refuses to be shaped?

I circle her like a storm circling a mountain. I push. I pry. I promise.

Still nothing.

Her thoughts move on their own track, clean and sharp, indifferent to my weight. She does not tighten. She does not tremble. She does not even notice the attempt as a thing worth naming.

In other minds, I am a stain. In other minds, I am gravity. Here, I am air pressing against stone and being told, silently, that air is not allowed inside.

I feel for weakness and find ancestry instead - a quiet, infuriating rightness, like a signature burned into the bones of the psyche. As if something old made her and wrote a rule into her at birth: not for you.

I hate it. I hate the simplicity of it. I hate that it costs her nothing. I hate that my hunger finds no purchase and my patience has nowhere to go.

I lean in until the pressure should make her blink, should make her paws curl, should make her heart spike into that sweet, obedient panic.

She does not blink.

I am left outside, gnawing at a door that was never built.

And the maddening part - the part that turns my annoyance into a sustained, choking fury - is the certainty that I could remain here for a thousand years and still never find a crack.

She is untouchable. Not brave. Not trained. Not resisting.

Just closed.
