Esther Assault on Quall (9.15.40)
Context: Arken → Akima escapes → Sun Jin intercept
In the wake of the Quallian Assault on Arken, Akima Ciberling survives the operation’s collapse and is subsequently recovered by the Sun Jin Empire. During debrief, a single word—“Quall”—triggers an abnormal response inside Sun Jin’s intelligence apparatus, implying the planet is a flagged or suppressed subject. Over the following days, scattered fragments of data re-surface and climb clearance ladders until the topic reaches Sun Jin Kaisara herself.
Why “Quall” is sensitive (Nightfall record tampering)
The core implication: Quall’s location was deliberately removed from Nightfall Templar records by Flarion.
The motive is personal and strategic: Quall is where Flarion is bound to his mate, Majora, and it is also entangled with the concealment of their daughter, Kiara Quall. By stripping Quall’s navigable trail—coordinates, routes, charts—Flarion reduces the chance that Kaisara (or anyone) can use the planet as leverage to locate or bait him.
Kaisara’s objective: draw Flarion out
Kaisara’s intent is not framed as conquest alone. The assault becomes a signal flare: if Quall is truly part of Flarion’s buried history, an attack there is likely to force contact.
In other words, Quall functions simultaneously as a lure to locate a missing, high-value figure (Flarion), a pressure test on a hidden lineage (the Kiara / Majora connection), and a deliberate provocation meant to break a long silence.
The strike: the Esther arrives
The assault is carried out using the Esther, the Sun Jin Empire’s mobile command ship and the most overwhelming symbol of Kaisara’s reach.
In the narrative presentation (as relayed later), the Esther’s arrival is described as catastrophic and non-local in scale—weather distortion, lightning lattice, a pressure-hum that becomes bodily pain, then the ship “materializing” close enough to blot out the sky.
Kiara’s near-death and the midair intervention
During the attack, Kiara Quall is knocked from a shuttle and falls in open air—an inflection point where she is poised to die as collateral of the broader operation.
At this moment, Flarion appears.
He intercepts her mid-fall—saving her life—then teleports her away in an extraction rather than an engagement. In the same breath, he infects her with a shard of Jethro, catalyzing the condition later described under Bloodtiger. The moment reads as a paradoxical rescue: an act of protection that also marks Kiara with an inheritable horror, a “save” that does not restore innocence so much as change the kind of danger she carries.
Flarion escapes (and the relationship rupture)
Flarion does not remain to fight. He extracts Kiara and disappears—successfully denying Kaisara the communion/contact she sought.
However, the event poisons the already-fragile relationship between Kaisara and Flarion:
Quall is framed as sacred ground to Flarion, tied to Majora and to Kiara’s concealment; the assault is not merely strategic but a desecration, and Kiara’s near-death makes the entire act personally unforgivable.
Akima’s revenge vector (the hidden win condition)
For Akima, the chain of events yields a separate payoff:
Arken is devastated in the earlier assault; the Quall response becomes a lever inside Sun Jin command; and Akima’s information ultimately contributes to Quall being located and struck.
The irony: Akima’s survival becomes the bridge that allows revenge to propagate upward into empire-scale action.
This revenge motive is reflected most clearly in the downstream narrative beats shown in BT - Chapter 5.
Aftermath (what this event changes)
Quall becomes “re-real” inside Sun Jin intel: no longer a known-but-unlocatable subject, but an actionable target. Kiara survives, but survival is coupled to Jethro-shard infection, escalating her arc toward Bloodtiger framing. Immediately after the midair interception, Flarion warps Kiara to Tier for safekeeping while he tries to determine how to cure the Shard of Jethro / Bloodtiger infection. Later, when Forza Ninetails needs saving at the Battle at Birch, Flarion also warps Forza to Tier, placing him near Kiara’s presumed location—setting up their eventual meeting in BT - Chapter 2 and BT - Chapter 3. Flarion remains uncontained and uncontacted—yet now personally implicated in the consequences—and Kaisara fails to achieve communion/contact, even as she succeeds in forcing a response at the cost of deepening the feud.
